MFF activists begin observation at 600 election precincts

19/12/10

The headquarters begins to receive the first information on violations during the main voting day. The authorities block the SIM-cards of mobile operators.

The observation campaign of the Movement For Freedom (MFF) aims at registering the violations during the main voting day and at evaluating the election’s results. It is on December 19 that the majority of the MFF observers started their work at election precincts. Thus, the main objectives of the MFF observers are: discovering the violations of the legislation, warning the election commissions of the inadmissibility of violations, documenting the violations, and receiving the results of voting during the main day of the election – December 19.

The first messages about the violations during voting on the main day of the election have already started to come in. These are mainly relating to voting at homes (commissions’ members take more ballot papers than the quantity of the corresponding requests of the voters, don’t allow the observers to accompany them, and don’t provide the information on what houses they are planning to visit). Observers aren’t allowed to perform an alternative count or to use mobile phones at some precincts.

For your reference – The election’s results as well as the information about the violations are promptly posted on-line on http://pyx.by. Reception of SMS messages by the numbers of mobile telephones of Velcom and Life operators used by the MFF observation campaign has been blocked since yesterday. According to the MFF deputy chairman Yuras Hubarevich, this will complicate the process of gathering the information about the violations and summarizing the results of the election, but won’t stop it because alternative forms of information gathering will be used.
