Milinkievich in Homiel (photos)

Some hundred Homiel region activists took part in the meeting with the Movement for Freedom (MFF) leader.

The meeting lasted for over two hours. The MFF leader Alaksandr Milinkievich and his deputy Viktar Karnieyenka spoke before the participants during this time. The organization’s leader and his team presented the theses of the candidate for president’s programme named Let’s Make Belarus a True Europe! with the priorities being a free and democratic Belarus, fair elections, respect of human rights, and the path of Belarus to the united Europe.

The meeting’s participants had the opportunity to ask Milinkievich a great number of questions about the peculiarities of the existing civil and political situation in our country.

The MFF deputy head Karnieyenka noted that over a thousand members have already joined Milinkievich’s initiative group. In fact, the MFF plans to gather a group in the number of five thousand members.

In his speech, Milinkievich noted the peculiarities of today’s situation. He thinks “there are serious threats to the economic sovereignty, but there are also important opportunities for changes” now. The system built on fear, force, and total control begins to be stuck in today’s conditions.

Talking about the EU’s policy, the organization’s leader stated that the EU won’t change the strategy of dialogue with the Belarusian authorities, but will improve the methods and the tactics of this process.

Milinkievich thinks that in order to win at the election, the victory in people’s minds is needed. It is necessary to gain trust of the majority that waits for changes.

According to the MFF Homiel region coordinator Piotr Kuzniatsou, the Homiel region residents support Milinkievich greatly. Over 80 persons filed their written applications on joining the initiative group as the result of the meeting.
