Viktar Karnieyenka: civil society demonstrates a good example for political institutions

07/07/10

The Movement for Freedom (MFF) deputy head who participated in the work of The Eastern Partnership Initiative’s Road Map For Belarus Conference thinks Belarusian civil associations work in a coordinated and consolidated way.

“Civil associations demonstrate a good example for political institutions. They have a will to cooperate, and this will is implemented practically. This was demonstrated last time at The Civil Society’s Forum in Brussels when the Belarusian group was the most active and the most prepared, the outcome being that almost every proposal was supported by the colleagues from other countries. This was also the case this time at the Conference of The Civil Society’s National Forum named The Eastern Partnership Initiative’s Road Map For Belarus”, Viktar Karnieyenka thinks.

According to the MFF deputy head, the situation in the political environment is, unfortunately, much worse.

“Formerly, we proposed to try and develop common visions for the most acute issues of home and foreign policy: on Milinkievich’s initiative, the parties’ leaders were gathering to reach common agreements, and we were proposing consolidated decisions to international institutions. However, the European Commission and other institutions regarded collegial decisions and recommendations much more seriously”, Karnieyenka adds.

At the Conference of The Civil Society’s National Forum that was held in Minsk on July 5-6, the documents were approved on all four basic platforms of the European partnership − the “road maps” with the details of the problems that worry the society most of all, and with the precise actions to solve them. The recommendations were given to 30 organizations to delegate their representatives to The Civil Society’s Forum that will be held in Berlin in November.
