Bychki waiting for prize winner
On June 19, the traditional awarding of the For Freedom of Thought prize founded by Alaksandr Milinkievich will take place in the home village of the late prominent writer Vasil Bykau.
The festive events will begin at 12:30 a.m. in Bychki village, Ushachy district, Vitsiebsk region.
The speeches by the deputy head of the Movement for Freedom (MFF) Viktar Karnieyenka and of the MFF leader Alaksandr Milinkievich will be made at the beginning of the event. After the introductory words of the prize founders, the previous winner of the prize – the famous poet Ryhor Baradulin will award the prize to the 2010 winner. Further events will include − congratulatory speeches by the previous winners of the Vasil Bykau For Freedom of Thought prize, as well as the speeches by the event’s guests, literary readings, summing up of the results of the quiz named What do I know about Bykau?, the performance of the Belarusian folk band named Rekha (Echo), and the national dictation.
For reference – the Vasil Bykau For Freedom of Thought prize that has been awarded annually on the national writer’s birthday starting from 2008 was won by Ryhor Baradulin, Uladzimir Arlou, Paval Sieviaryniets, and Ales Pushkin. The prize winners received the For Freedom of Thought figurine made by sculptor Viktar Kopach, and the honorary diplomas.
