MFF Vitsiebsk region coordinator detained (photos)
Khrustaphor Zhelapau was distributing The New Life newspaper to Vitsiebsk residents in which the theses of the Alaksandr Milinkievich’s presidential campaign are printed.
The special militia force detained the activist when he was distributing the newspaper at the city streets to the passer-bys in which the theses of the presidential campaign of the Movement for Freedom (MFF) leader Alaksandr Milinkievich are printed. When he was detained, Zhelapau had 291 copy of the newspaper. He also had his identifying documents.
Zhelapau, the MFF Vitsiebsk region coordinator, was in one of the Vitsiebsk militia office for almost an hour.
“The problem is that the militia don’t know the laws. They were told to bring me to militia office, so they did. Now, they draw up the protocol. Most likely, they will incriminate the violation of the Law On Mass Media to me. However, there was no violation, since this newspaper is issued by the registered organization. The number of copies is within the authorized limits”, Zhelapau told during his stay in the militia office.
In an hour after his detention, the activist received the protocol on the seizure of newspapers, and was set free. The MFF Vitsiebsk region coordinator thinks that this detention is arbitrary, that it violates his constitutional rights, and intends to appeal against the actions of the militia in court.
