Quiz on Vasil Bykau’s birthday

The awarding of the For Freedom of Thought prize will take place on June 19, on the writer’s birthday, at his home village Bychki, Ushachy district, Vitsiebsk region.

 

This prize was founded by the Movement for Freedom (MFF) leader Alaksandr Milinkievich. The awarding will happen for the third time now. The prize appeared after Milinkievich received the Sakharov prize of the same name – For Freedom of Thought – from the European Parliament.

 

Milinkievich said that this was not only a prize for him personally but to everyone who shows the spirit of freedom. Therefore, the Belarusian analogue of the Sakharov prize For Freedom of Thought appeared.

 

The person who will be awarded this prize this year will be defined by the jury composed of former prize winners – Ryhor Baradulin, Uladzimir Arlou, Paval Sieviaryniets, and Ales Pushkin.

 

Three persons who answer the questions of the Bykau’s quiz quicker and more accurately than others will visit Bykau’s homeland on that day, and will participate in the ceremony of awarding the For Freedom of Thought prize. Moreover, the quiz winners will receive the presents – in Bychki village, as well.

 

The results of the quiz will be announced on Thursday, June 17.
