The activists of the Movement for Freedom (MFF), of the Belarusian Popular Front party (BPF), of the Belarusian Language Association (BLA), and of other organizations congratulated the famous writer from Slauharad town with his birthday.
The event that gathered some 30 people was held in a coffee bar in Slauharad.
The member of the Belarusian Writers Union and of the BLA, the veteran of the World War II, the co-founder of the Belarusian Popular Front party, the former head of the Slauharad District Council heard many warm words at his birthday party.
In the former years, Feliks Shkirmankou issued 14 books of poetry and prose. The most well-known of them are: Belarus – My Beloved Land, The Fern Flower, Faith And Hope Are With Us, My Vision, and Preserve For Ever.
Feliks Shkirmankou was born on May 27, 1926. When Feliks was 15, he decided to study for geologist. However, the war changed his plans. In 1942-1943, the young boy fought in the Chekist partisan brigade in the Mahiliou province, and later in Shlakhtunou’s brigade in the Vialeyka district. Despite his four wounds and a partial disability caused by war, Shkirmankou managed to achieve his childhood’s dream. He graduated from the Polytechnic Mining Institute in Moscow. Shkirmankou’s expeditions and journeys encompassed the Far East, Chukotka, Kolyma, etc. The experienced explorer of the mineral wealth wrote a colourful book of short novels and stories named By The Mammoths’ Path that marked the beginning of his literary career.
