Opposition isn’t trusted to possess guns? (photo)
A founder of the Movement for Freedom (the MFF) Dzianis Turcheniak is deprived of the right to possess a gas pistol for 5 years.
The activist was summoned to the Minsk Maskouski District Militia Office, and was presented with the minutes of seizure of gas gun that has been possessed by the activist, on the basis of the official permission, for 15 years now. The gas pistol owned by Turcheniak is virtually confiscated based on the fact that the activist was held administratively liable in the last August. He was then charged with a fine for his alleged attempts to prevent the militia from detaining Mikhas Ilyin.
Turcheniak thinks the fact that the law enforcement officers remembered of his gas pistol only now is related with the announcement of the MFF head Alaksandr Milinkievich of his participation in the presidential election campaign.
“True, there is a provision in the law On Guns that states that a person who was held administratively liable shall be devoid of the right to possess a gas pistol. However, I wonder why did the militia remember of this almost a year after my detention and penalizing? I think this is related with the start of the new political campaign of the MFF. On the other hand, I think I was fined unlawfully in August 2009 since I actually committed no offence. I tried to appeal against the decision of the District Court, but this gave no results”, Turcheniak tells.
The activist considers the militia’s actions to be a form of pressure against him because of his active civil position. The militia office employees informed him that the pistol will be kept for a month. If Turcheniak doesn’t sell the pistol within this period, it will be destroyed. However, the pistol is a private property that costs a lot.
