Alaksandr Milinkievich condemns new wave of repressions, detentions, and searches in the apartments of civil activists and journalists.

 

“Such actions of the authorities are non-adequate and outrageous. They reflect the weakness of the regime. I call on the Belarusian civil society for consolidation and solidarity”, the Movement for Freedom (the MFF) leader declared.

 

As BelaPAN news agency previously informed, searches were performed on May 18 in the Minsk office of the Tell the Truth! campaign, in the apartments of the activists of this initiative, as well as in the apartments of the representatives of the democratic forces of Homiel, Brest, Hrodna, Mahilou, Babruysk, and Slonim.

 

According to unofficial information, the searches are relating to a certain criminal case. According to the information of some sources, this case was initiated on the basis of the fact of slander, while other sources say it was initiated on the basis of the illegal purchase of equipment.

 

Both the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the KGB (Committee for State Security) refused to comment on this situation.
