Alaksandr Milinkievich participates in a high-level conference organized by the European Parliament’s EPP group
The Movement for Freedom (the MFF) leader made a speech at the session dedicated to the challenges and the prospects of the Eastern Partnership Initiative.
The conference organized by the European Parliament European People’s Party group is the meeting of the group’s board at the highest level. It is attended by the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek, by the European Parliament EPP group head Joseph Daul, as well as by a great number of the European Parliament’s deputies.
The topic of the meeting is the EPP’s programme provisions and the major lines of its further policy. In particular, the conference topics include the implementation of the Eastern Partnership Initiative, the assessment of the challenges and prospects for the European continent, the strategy of building a social market economy in the European Union that would allow creating additional job positions, the issue of fighting against the organized crime and corruption, as well as the ways of solving this problem at the EU’s level.
Alaksandr Milinkievich together with Jerzy Buzek and Armenia’s prime-minister Tigran Sargsyan made speeches at the session dedicated to the Eastern Partnership Initiative.
In his speech, the MFF leader concentrated on the objectives and the challenges of the Eastern Partnership Initiative, presented a brief assessment of the situation in Belarus, and expressed his opinion concerning the representation of Belarus in the Euronest. Milinkievich gave the assessment of the last local election, and declared that the Belarusian authorities have no political will to allow the Belarusian people choosing its representatives. According to him, the amendments to the Election Code were of a “cosmetic” nature, and didn’t get Belarus any closer to the European standards. Milinkievich pointed out that the legitimacy of the Belarusian parliament could be accepted only after a free and fair election.
During the conference, the MFF leader also discussed the issues of the representation in the Euronest with the Armenia’s prime-minister, and had several other meetings.
Milinkievich thanked the participants for their interest to Belarus, and expressed his hope for further efficient cooperation with the largest group of the European Parliament.
