Utility service finally admits the expediency of water meters installation

The opinion of the Housing and Utilities Industry (HUI) heads of Biarozauka town on the inefficiency of installing the water metering devices changed when the activists reached the Minister.

“We have repeatedly addressed to the HUI officials asking to install water meters in the workers’ boarding houses; however, we found no understanding. Despite the fact that people were ready to pay the full amount of the service and the cost of water meters, the Housing and Utilities Service (HUS) declared that this was technically very difficult and inefficient. No doubt, such position looks rather odd since the energy conservation policy is implemented at the state level. It seems the situation changed after our addressing to the Ministry of Housing and Utilities Industry. Now, they “don’t see any problem”, and don’t oppose installing water meters – every resident just should write the application on the installation. The HUI is even ready to allow payments by installments of the water meters’ cost now”, the Movement for Freedom (the MFF) activist Siarhiey Trafimchyk tells.

Recently, the HUS head held a meeting with the residents of the boarding house No.2, and told them about the conditions of installing the water meters. The representatives of the District HUI and of the Province HUI Administration met the MFF activist, and assured him that they aren’t against installing the water meters; however, they proposed to test this at one of the floors of the boarding house for a start.

The correspondence with the HUI institutions of different levels that commenced as early as in the last November began to yield results, eventually.
