Alaksandr Milinkievich: Our strategy will bring victory! (photos)
The Movement for Freedom (the MFF) leader announced his intention to run for president, and voiced the theses of his programme.
The event was held at the Europe hotel, and was attended by some 130 people (journalists, intellectuals, and honourable guests).
Alaksandr Milinkievich told the participants about the main lines of his programme. As part of the mechanisms of creating a responsible authority, the return to fair and transparent elections, as well as to real local self-government is provided for. The need to ensure the freedom of mass media is declared. The economic steps of the programme include attraction of investments, transparent fiscal policy, support of the private business, exploitation of the transit traffic potential, energy conservation policy, efficient agriculture, etc. The Social Policy section provides for increasing the possibilities of the European education for the Belarusian youth, for reforming the housing and utilities sector and the public health service, as well as the pension coverage. The foreign policy would be aimed at the integration of Belarus into the EU, at building transparent and good-neighbourly relations with Russia, and at the path of creating a neutral state.
In a thesis form, the MFF leader told the participants about the ways of implementing the provisions of his programme.
After presenting the programme’s theses, Milinkievich answered the journalists’ questions. During the briefing, the MFF leader informed that he intends to use every possible way of non-violent pressure on the authorities in order to achieve the participation of the democratic forces in the vote count at the presidential election. The MFF leader thinks that if the authorities don’t ensure the transparency of the election, the people would take to the streets to defend its choice, and would surely gain victory.
Milinkievich believes that the principal purpose of today is to win in people’s minds. “People should live differently – without fear. If we do not say our word, we would be destined to live under dictatorship further on. Everyone should realize own responsibility for the country’s future”.
The MFF leader also declared that he considers the criminal persecution of Mikalai Autukhovich and his colleagues to be a political case, and that he will do everything he can to free the people accused under this case.
