MFF activist asking to hold visiting session of the province court

07/04/10

The unregistered candidate for deputy from Astraviets town Ivan Kruk continues appealing against the decision of the Astraviets District Election Commission.

The Commission refused to register Kruk declaring that 10 signatures for his support are false.

Kruk, the candidate from the Movement for Freedom (the MFF), suspects that the District Election Commission deputy head Mr. Zimnitski and the Commission member Mr. Svila forged the notes of five voters that inform that they waive their signatures.

Several facts speak in favor of the activist’s opinion:

- Kruk is sure of the quality of work of the members of his initiative group because they were collecting the signatures in his presence, and made no violations.

- The District Commission refused Kruk to familiarize with the materials of inspection of the citizens’ signatures collected for his support in order to appeal against their decision to higher authorities.

- The Central Election Commission evaded considering the appeal motivating this by the fact that it has no right to instruct the Province Commission on how the appeals against the decisions of District Commissions should be considered.

- The Deputy District Prosecutor made the decision to refuse to hold liable the members of the District Commission who refused to familiarize the activist with the materials, and who – in Kruk’s opinion – forged the citizens’ notes about invalidity of their signatures.

Kruk, the well-known civil activist of the district, asks the Hrodna Province Court to hold a visiting session in Astraviets to have the possibility to question around ten local witnesses (the citizens who gave their signatures for his support, and who, allegedly, waived them later), as well as the members of the Astraviets Commission.
