Militia search in Pinsk

01/04/10

The militia are looking for prohibited printed products in the apartment of the well-known activist of the Movement for Freedom (the MFF), the candidate for deputy to the Pinsk City Council Aliaksandr Ramanovich.

The candidate for deputy together with his friend was preparing leaflets for the election campaign in the friend’s apartment. All of a sudden, the militia came and produced a warrant which stated that the search was sanctioned because of a drug case.

The militia also declared to Ramanovich they plan to perform a search in his apartment in the nearest future.

The MFF Brest province coordinator Zmitsier Tratsiak thinks the search is probably explained by Ramanovich’s civil activity, as well as by the election campaign to local Councils.

The members of the Pinsk security agencies traditionally show a very nervous reaction to the participation of the local democratic activists in elections. During the 2007 election, the candidate Alaksandr Ramanovich spent the polling day in a lockup on the charge of the disorderly conduct.
