MFF activist files a complaint to the Brest Region Election Commission
Ryhor Hryk wasn’t registered as a candidate for deputy neither of the Baranavichy Town Council nor of the Brest Region Council because of the 14 allegedly wrong signatures.
On March 27, the Movement for Freedom (the MFF) Baranavichy town activist Ryhor Hryk filed a complaint to the Brest Region Territorial Election Commission.
He wasn’t registered as a candidate for deputy of the Baranavichy Town Council in the constituency No.15 based on the Decision No.3-6 of the Baranavichy Town Territorial Election Commission of March 25, 2010. He also wasn’t registered as a candidate for deputy of the Brest Region Council based on the Decision No.1 of the Constituency Commission of the Baranavichi-Uskhodniaya constituency No.17.
According to the two Commissions, the reason for such decision was the presence of 14 inaccurate signatures of the following citizens: Viachaslau Vosipavich Charniak, Valantsina Vosipauna Kastsiuk, Ludmila Siarhieyeuna Kuchura, Siarhiey Nailyevich Niehamiadzianau, Maryna Ivanauna Kavalova, and others.
The Commissions considered that the voters wrote their signatures themselves, but the dates weren’t written by them. The Commissions members also managed to get the notes from the voters which prove they only put their signatures.
The unregistered candidate for deputy Mr. Hryk thinks the Election Commissions members gathered these written statements – concerning the refusal from writing the dates –by deception, of which he has the corresponding proofs.
Hryk totally disagrees with the decision taken by the Commission, and – based on the aforesaid facts, and guided by Article 68 of the Electoral Code of the Republic of Belarus – asks the Brest Region Territorial Election Commission:
1. To engage the needed specialists in order to perform the handwriting examination of the signature lists;
2. To invalidate the Decision of the Baranavichy Town Territorial Election Commission and the Decision of March 25, 2010 of the Constituency Commission of the Baranavichy-Uskhodniaya constituency No.17, and to state that these decisions violate his constitutional right to be elected to the state agencies;
3. To register him as a candidate for deputy of the Baranavichy Town Council and the Brest Region Deputies’ Council.
The Movement for Freedom (the MFF) activist Viktar Syrytsa added that if the Brest Region Territorial Election Commission also takes a decision for the benefit of the Baranavichy Town Commission and the Constituency Commission of the Baranavichy-Uskhodniaya constituency No.17, Hryk intends to appeal to court.
