Masty town dwellers who supported the opposition are under pressure

25/03/10

Ales Zarembiuk, the Movement for Freedom (the MFF) Council member and the contender for deputy candidates, informed of the pressure on the teachers of secondary schools.

According to Zarembiuk’s information, strong pressure on the part of the administration is exerted on the teachers who gave their signatures for delegating him as candidate for deputy, so that they waive their signatures.

“The fact of the pressure is proved. Such practice of pressure on those giving their signatures for independent or democratic delegates has existed for several election campaigns already. This was the case during the 2008 election, during the 2007 election, let alone during the 2006 presidential election. The Belarusian Election Law ensures the right of each citizen to give one signature even for all contenders for candidates. However, this is pure theory. In practice, the situation is very brutal and non-democratic. The pressure which I feel now didn’t occur from the 2006 presidential election; I have never faced such pressure at the local elections before”, the contender for deputy says.
