Minsk activists pay tribute to Kastus Kalinouski (photo)

The activists of the Movement for Freedom (the MFF) and of the Free Youth movement hung up the banner reading Kalinouski Forever at the Independence avenue (Niezalezhnastsi avenue).
The banner didn’t hang for a long time. Quite soon, it was removed from the Chaliuskintsau park fence by people in civilian clothes. However, some hundreds of drivers and passengers managed to see it through the windows of their motorcars.
Kastus Kalinouski, the leader of the national liberation rebellion against the tzar’s authorities of the Russian Empire, the publisher of The Peasants’ Truth newspaper, and a real national hero of Belarus, died a martyr’s death on March 22, 1864.
