Hungary ambassador meets youth activists (photos)

19/03/10

The meeting included viewing of the Hungarian feature film named The Witness, and the talk on the urgent issues of civil society’s development in Belarus and in Hungary.

On March 18, the Hungary embassy was visited by some 30 youth activists of the Free Youth movement, the Movement for Freedom (the MFF), the BPF Youth (Belarusian Popular Front party), the Buduchynia (the Future) movement, and the Razam (Together) movement. This cultural meeting became possible thanks to the organizational efforts of the MFF activist Mikita Krasnou, and thanks to the ambassador Ferens Contra’s support of this idea.

At the beginning of the meeting, viewing of The Witness feature film was arranged. This film is filled with sharp satire against the social reality of the 1970’s Hungary. After a coffee break and a small treat, a friendly talk of the ambassador and his colleagues with the youth activists followed about the political and economic situation in Belarus and in Hungary, as well as about the peculiarities of development of the European Union’s countries. The informal discussion with the youth activists was supported by Ferens Contra, consul Laszlo Daroci, and the embassy’s first secretary Mr. Horvat.

According to the ambassador, Belarus will surely go through the path of reforming and democratization – which Hungary already did – because there is just no other alternative of development for a former socialist but European country.

At the end of the meeting, a representative of the Youth For Human Rights organization told the event’s participants about the work done by this organization, and made the presentation of a short enlightenment film named History Of Human Rights.

According to the event’s participants, this cultural meeting arranged in the embassy as part of the European Week-End campaign turned out to be very interesting and useful. The Hungary ambassador Ferens Contra expressed his intention to arrange such meetings regularly.
