Aliaksandr Milinkevich has resumed his visits to regions. Apart from meeting people he is taking part in electoral campaign of democratic activists who included him in their initiative groups.
On August 3, Milinkevich was collecting signatures for Ihar Rynkevich, a candidate from the United Democratic Forces (UDF), running elections in the Kalvaryjski district №104 in Minsk. Next day the politician had meetings with voters in two other towns. In Lahojsk (Minsk region) he stood behind the democratic candidate Mikalaj Liashchun. Then in Barysau (Minsk region), Milinkevich collected signatures in favour of Siarhei Salash who has been competing for a seat in the Parliament with an official Mr. Hurjanau, director of bread-baking plant.
Zmicier Shevel, coordinator of Mikalaj Liashchun’s initiative group, says that people, having a fear to be persecuted by authorities, are quite reluctant to give their signatures for opposition candidates.
- The city’s authorities have been doing “hard work” by exerting pressure on Mikalaj Liashchun and his team. We have only 5 volunteers, collecting voters’ signatures although 15 people had been registered in our initiative group at the beginning of the campaign. People feel big pressure of the local administration which does not stop intimidating them. Mikalaj Liashchun has got already a threat to be dismissed should he persist in his electoral campaign, - Zmicier Shevel noticed. – We meet many people who trust neither elections nor the House of Representatives.
During Milinkevich’s visits to Lahojsk and Barysau many people came over to talk with him but, apparently, they were scared to give signatures.
On August 4 and 5, Milinkevich is visiting Mahiliou and the Mahiliou region to have meetings with voters and to support local activists in their campaigns.
