Youth activists celebrate Constitution Day
On March 15, the activists of the Free Youth movement and of the Movement for Freedom (the MFF) – with the help of large cross-street banners – called for respect of the Basic Law of the state.
One of the banners reading Respect the Constitution was fixed to the bridge near the Belarus department store opposite the Zavadski district administration of Minsk.
“In this way, the activists wanted to draw society’s attention to the fact that not only the common European legal standards are violated in today’s circumstances, but also the current Belarusian Constitution. The conflict with the Polish minority, violent crackdowns of peaceful actions, and repressions against civil activists testify to the fact that the Articles of the existing Constitution aren’t executed by the official authorities”, the Free Youth activist Viktoriya Ladzis comments on the action.
The Basic Law of the Republic of Belarus was adopted on March 15, 1994 by the Supreme Council of the country. This was a significant historical fact which influenced further development of the Republic of Belarus.
