CEC head demanding to punish officials who violate election law

11/03/10

The Movement for Freedom (the MFF) Haradok activist Leanid Haravy received the answer from the Central Election Commission (CEC) head Lidziya Yarmoshyna who supports his opinion.

The CEC head informs the MFF activist of the fact that she sent the request to the Vitsiebsk Province Executive Committee head to hold accountable the officials who are guilty of violating the election law when forming constituencies for elections to local Deputies Councils of Vitsiebsk province. In her answer, Yarmoshyna also informs that the CEC held the session with the province election commissions heads on March 2 where the issue of complying with the Election Code when forming constituencies in Vitsiebsk province was considered.

However, Haravy thinks district commissions should be held accountable for the current situation in the first place.

“The answer I received gives hope that “cutting up” of constituencies would be adjusted in accordance with the requirements of the Election Code in the majority of Vitsiebsk province districts where the standard of the Article 15, part 6 has been violated. However, the key problem is not that district executive committees officials violated the standards of the Election Code having filed poor results of their work to district commissions, but that district commissions didn’t use the provisions of the Law when cutting up constituencies which reflects their incompetence”, the activist thinks.
