Frunzienski district officials afraid of transparent election

No single independent delegate of the citizens was included in precinct election commissions of the Sukharava district of Minsk.

Frunzienski district administration of Minsk refused to 191 voters of the Sukharava district No.30 having included no single of the 13 independent contenders in the 11 precinct commissions.

“The local officials act according to own “rules” – they need no publicity or transparent elections. They don’t want the independent members of commissions to see what the voters put on their ballot papers in reality. Therefore, they take such unjust decisions which are, unfortunately, very easy to predict”, lawyer Darya Katkouskaya noted. Katkouskaya herself lives in Sukharava sub-district, and local residents willingly gave their signatures for her delegation.

Every delegate of the citizens has great experience in election campaigns and in observing elections both in Belarus and abroad. These include Viktar Karnieyenka, Ina Kuley, Enira Branitskaya, Andrey Sushko, Alaksiey Kavalets, Alaksandr Taustyka, Darya Katkouskaya, Andrey Lakhovich, Aleh Hayeuski, Aksana Kolb, Aleh Tarasievich, and Iryna Bokhan. Five delegates live in Sukharava themselves, and six delegates have either legal or political science education. However, precinct election commissions of the Sukharava constituency will be composed solely of the representatives of the pro-governmental and controlled organizations, such as the Bielaya Rus, the Belarusian Republican Youth Union, the Belarusian Red Cross Society, the Peace Foundation, the Women’s Union, the Education Employees Trade Union, the Social and Sports Party, as well as the representatives of Housing and Utility Services and schools.

“There are no illusions concerning the democratic nature of vote count. Nevertheless, we will continue the campaign to learn more about the citizen’s attitudes and to inform them, as well as to mobilise to solving local problems”, Ales Lahviniec declared. His team collected signatures for delegating the independent representatives to precinct commissions.
