Belarusian politicians meet Radoslaw Sikorski
According to Aliaksandr Milinkevich, the meeting with the Polish minister of foreign affairs was very efficient and useful.
This is not the first meeting of such format of the Poland’s foreign minister with the representatives of the democratic community. This time, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs head met the Movement for Freedom (the MFF) leader Aliaksandr Milinkevich, the Belarusian Popular Front party head Alaksiey Yanukievich, the United Civil Party leader Anatol Labiedzka, the Just World party leader Siarhiey Kalakin, former chairman of the Supreme Council of Belarus Stanislau Shushkievich, the Young Front movement leader Zmitsier Dashkievich, and politician Ales Mikhalevich.
At the meeting, the politicians discussed the ways to make the democratization processes in Belarus irreversible. Poland was the initiator of replacing the policy of self-isolation with the policy of dialogue. During the talks, Radoslaw Sikorski noted he does not doubt the expediency of the chosen strategy.
At the same time, the situation with the Union of Poles shows that, in some cases, there is a lack of mechanisms which could force the Belarusian authorities to completely abandon the pressure on the civil society. The search and improvement of tools of influence on the official Minsk will continue.
The meeting participants also discussed the latest cases of violation of human rights in Belarus, the election campaign for local councils, and the issue of representation of Belarus in the Euronest.
