Staking on quality

10/03/10

83 activists of the Movement for Freedom (the MFF) are delegated as candidates for deputies of local councils all over the country. On average, the MFF representatives are delegated to commissions of half of precincts where the MFF contenders participate.

Delegating the contenders for candidates was performed by way of signatures collecting.

The MFF contenders were delegated to precinct election commissions either by way of signatures collecting or through organization’s entities. 173 MFF representatives are delegated to commissions in total. If every representative is registered, the monitoring of the vote count would be ensured approximately in half of the precincts of the constituencies where the MFF activists participate. According to the MFF deputy head Yuras Hubarevich, this would allow getting a more or less objective picture of the results of voting.

Creating the precinct election commissions should be completed on March 10. After that, it will be known how many MFF activists’ applications for participation in the work of the said lower level commissions were admitted by the authorities.

18 persons from the MFF are delegated for deputies of the Minsk City Council and to province councils, while 39 activists are delegated to district councils, and 37 activists are delegated to the province towns councils. Three MFF representatives are delegated to village councils. The difference in numbers is explained by the fact that some MFF activists run for deputy chairs in several councils simultaneously.

The MFF is ready to help every candidate who shares its values.

“The MFF province coordinators actively cooperate with independent candidates who are committed to the European values. Every possible organizational support is provided to such individuals. We hope they would join our organization after the election campaign”, the MFF deputy head Yuras Hubarevich says.

According to Hubarevich, the MFF didn’t aspire to delegate a great number of candidates for elections to local councils. The main criterion is quality.

“When the decision to delegate a particular person was taken, the emphasis was put on those who have experience of work with people in respective constituencies, are known to voters, and can expect to win”, the MFF deputy head explains.
