Anonymous letters back in fashion?
On February 13, the Movement for Freedom (the MFF) supporter Illia Zaranok had to give his explanations in the Mahilou Inter-Garrison Military Prosecutor’s Office.
The reason for this was the anonymous denunciation sent by unknown persons. In particular, the letter informs that Zaranok allegedly is “the enemy of the Belarusian authorities” and wants “to overthrow the constitutional system of our country”, and that Gorki town military commissioner “forgetting the esprit de corps”, received a bribe from Zaranok. The slanderers claim that owing to that bribe Zaranok wasn’t enlisted to the armed forces.
In his explanations, the civil activist stated that he has never seen the military commissioner personally. Moreover, Zaranok had no need to offer a bribe not to be drafted, since he had a legal postponement of military service because of his education which can be proved by the materials of his military file.
The anonymous denunciation also mentions the name of the son of another Gorki civil activist Piotr Malanachkin who was persecuted by the local authorities for placing a stand with Bibles near his house. According to Zaranok, this could be the proof of the pre-planned action with the purpose to intimidate active citizens on the eve of the local election.
