Ministry of Education repeats the BSU rector’s arguments

01/02/10

The Young Front youth movement member Tatsiana Shaputska was refused to renew her education at the 2nd year of the law department.

Deputy Minister of Education Mr. Zhuk replied to Shaputska’s appellation that the rectorate’s actions fully comply with the requirements of the Law and that “there are no legal grounds to cancel the order on expulsion”.

Shaputska friends point out that the reply of the Ministry of Education contains text fragments which completely coincide with the wording of the refusal of the Belarusian State University (the BSU) head Mr. Ablamieyka.

Shaputska thinks the Ministry of Education didn’t react to the arguments contained in her appellation – namely, to the fact that depratment’s opinion should have priority when determining a disciplinary punishment; and department management proposed to make a simple admonition. There is no explanation for applying the toughest possible punishment to Shaputska. She thinks Deputy Minister of Education merely sent her a runaround.

For reference – Shaputska was expelled from the 2nd year of the BSU law department (political science specialty) after her participation in the Eastern Partnership’s Civil Society Forum in Brussels. The MFF joined the campaign to support Shaputska who was expelled for political reasons. The MFF leader Aliaksandr Milinkievich sent letters to the BSU management demanding to restore Shaputska in the university.
