Political draftee’s case to be closed?

28/01/10

The decision of the Movement for Freedom (the MFF) activist Aleh Pronski’s case – who should have been sent to the armed forces today – was postponed till Monday.

At 6:50 a.m. Pronski came with his friends to the Masty Town Military Enlistment Office from where he should have been taken to a military unit in Hrodna city. However, major Remiez gave Pronski a new call-up paper for dispatch to the military unit on Monday. Meanwhile, the enlistment campaign will finish literally tomorrow.

“The responsible persons from certain agencies may have understood they ventured too far. Pronski’s dispatch was postponed to a large extent due to the media support. We’d like to thank everyone who supported us at that time! Thanks to newspersons, bloggers, lawyers, and human rights advocates, as well as to all good people who helped us yesterday”, the MFF Hrodna province coordinator Ales Zarembiuk says.

According to Pronski, the best weapon against the pressure of security agencies and intelligence agencies on the democratic activists is to voice the information through the media. At least, information appeared that KGB captain Piatsevich who tried to recruit Pronski last year was reduced to the rank of lieutenant.
