Fingerprinting to become paid?

27/01/10

The Movement for Freedom (the MFF) Biarozauka town activist Siarhiei Trafimchyk was prompted to do fingerprinting now – till it’s free of charge.

The militia of the Biarozauka town division of the Lida District Internal Affairs Department –where Trafimchyk came in accordance with the call-up paper – were insistently persuading him to do fingerprinting. After the militia’s reference to the amendment to the Law On the Obligatory Fingerprinting didn’t help (the new edition of this Law will become effective only in April), the militia began to use a rather exotic reasoning. The District Internal Affairs Department officers assumed Trafimchyk was afraid of something since he didn’t want to do voluntary fingerprinting. Then, one of the officers even said that one should not delay fingerprinting. According to her, this procedure will cost up to 10 base values (appr. €85) after it becomes obligatory.

Trafimchyk didn’t yield to the tempting offer to save good money and went home having done no fingerprinting. The militia wrote “refused” in his call-up paper.
