Regional coalitions to be created to participate in local elections
The Belarusian Independence Block (BIB) Council adopted the statement calling for creating wide regional coalitions with the purpose of consolidating and coordinating the activities during local elections.
At the BIB session, the Movement for Freedom (the MFF) deputy chair Yuras Hubarevich told about the creation of the Brest province civil and political forces coalition which will operate during local administrations election campaign. According to him, this is the example of creating a healthy alternative to the local United Democratic Forces (UDF) structures which are practically inoperative. The Council session participants recommended expanding the Brest activists’ initiative to other regions.
According to Hubarevich, the BIB structures shall form the basis of regional coalitions.
In its statement, the BIB Council calls on regional BIB structures to create coalitions in order to consolidate and coordinate the activities during elections of the local administrations’ deputies. The BIB Council also recommends that the structures of other civil associations and political parties which are committed to the principles of democracy, independence, and European choice shall be involved in the coalitions’ activity.
