Baranavichy poet Ales Kornieu awarded the barrel of honey (photo)

15/01/10

Honey literature award celebration took place in Pruzhany town on January 14.

The award ceremony founded by the Pruzhany entrepreneur Mikalay Papiek takes place annually in Pruzhany beginning with 2001.

The 2009 Honey Award – sixteen kilograms of honey and diploma – went to poet Ales Kornieu from Baranavichy town for his The Untamed Sexophone book of poems.

“Ales Kornieu is one of the most creative poets of the Brest province. He is the author of numerous books of poems. In such books of poems as Following the Swallow and Morning Plays the Dawn, Kornieu describes the beauty of the native land and its people. In his Crosses of Our Dear Land book of poems, the author shows the tragic and heroic history of our country in poetical form”, the MFF activist Viktar Syrytsa says.

According to Syrytsa, Kornieu – gynecologist by profession – became famous mostly for his amorous poetry and for description of intimate relations between a man and a woman. This beautiful love is described in such books of poems as Women’s Tunes, Under the Evening Star, and The Untamed Sexophone. In these books, the poet doesn’t write about the native land, about fields and meadows, about hard Belarusian fate, about hay harvesting or about peasants’ houses and forests. These poems are chiefly about love and erotic which Belarusian poetry has always lacked.

All adherents of the native language congratulate Mr. Kornieu with this beautiful and deserved reward.
