Pinsk residents switch off the unnecessary traffic light

14/01/10

The Movement for Freedom (the MFF) Pinsk town activists organized collection of signatures for the change of operation of a traffic light. The State Traffic Inspection (STI) (traffic police) agreed to do this.

60 people signed the appeal to Ales Bokhan, the head of the State Traffic Inspection Division of the Pinsk Town Internal Affairs Department. The authors of the letter pointed out that the traffic light facing the Khvalia stadium doesn’t perform the required functions. The number of pedestrians at this road section is minimal. At the same time, this traffic light obstructs the traffic. Most pedestrians use the signaled crossing near the outpatient hospital which is located 100 metres away.

The people who signed the letter proposed two alternatives to the STI which would allow improving the traffic condition – to install the push button in the traffic light post which could be used by a rare pedestrian or to switch on this traffic light on the days when large-scale events take place at the Khvalia stadium.

Pinsk dwellers’ letter resulted in creation of the commission chaired by the Pinsk STI head. The militia got familiarized with the situation at the site and agreed with the arguments of the appeal’s authors. The traffic light is switched off now. The push button for pedestrians will be installed in it in the nearest future.
