Minskers indignant about the officials’ indifference
The Movement for Freedom (the MFF) activists performed a poll of the Savietski district dwellers on the problems which are the most important for them.
The questionnaire took place in the Savietski district for several weeks in order to analyze the existing problems and to discover the most urgent of them. Over a hundred people from different parts of the district were polled.
The district dwellers pointed out the following main problems – insufficient number of parking lot places for personal cars (Uskhodniaya street, houses No. 54, 56, 69, 168, and 170, and Mielezha street, house No. 4 and some others), poor courtyards lighting, non-regular removal of plastic waste garbage containers, and violation of standards during parking lot construction at Mielezha street. However, the citizens express their greatest indignation about the untimely reaction of the local authorities to the citizens’ requests and complaints; moreover, sometimes there is no reaction whatsoever from the District Administration to the citizens’ letters.
“The district resident, a former engineer, who perfectly understands construction standards told me about one of such cases:
“Even at the so called “zero” stage of construction of the parking lot at Mielezha street, evident violations occurred of which the Administration leadership was informed. However, a rather “vague” answer followed stating that all standards are always observed in our district!”
After construction was completed and the parking lot was commissioned, the residents asked the authorities again why Vietraz company employees (for whom the parking lot was built) park their personal cars in the courtyards of the adjacent houses. The local authorities answered that this parking lot doesn’t have sufficient number of free places. However, local residents see that the parking lot is half empty every day”, Yury Salodki, the MFF activist, says.
Salodki showed one more example of the Administration’s inactivity. The residents of houses No. 54, 56, and 69 at Uskhodniaya street wrote the collective appeal to the Savietski District Administration asking to put their courtyard parking lots in order. Several months passed but no measures were taken on the part of the official authorities.
Many people who participated in the poll tend to think that the officials’ attitude towards “common people” can be best described by such words as “indifference” and “irresponsibility”.
