Scandalous construction gets under society’s control
The Movement for Freedom (the MFF) activists took part in the meeting of the citizens and the authorities’ representatives on the problem of dense construction development in the area of Kolasa and Kalinina streets.
The construction of the apartment house near junction of Kolasa and Kalinina streets lead to great resonance. The residents are totally against this new building for several reasons. The MFF activists helped to draw up complaints to several state agencies. The State Construction Inspection Committee admitted that the facts described are true and issued the order to stop construction work.
The meeting with citizens was attended by the Piershamayski District Administration deputy chair Alieh Rubak, MAPID (state-owned construction company) chief engineer Mr. Turau, and the investor’s representatives. The officials stated the opinion of the District Administration. They said the construction is being performed in accordance with the Law. Mr. Turau assured the citizens that all violations were corrected and promised to pay due attention to the criticism of the residents living in the houses adjacent to the construction site.
“We realize that this house will be built. This cannot be stopped. Our aim is to defend as much as possible the residents’ rights which are violated during the construction. Our addresses to the State Monitoring Committee and to the Inspection on Construction Monitoring and Control resulted in finding out the violations, in imposing the sanctions on the construction company, and in the anticipated court proceedings”, Yuras Mielashkievich, the MFF Minsk coordinator, says.
Mielashkievich reported that the MFF will continue to monitor the violations of the citizens’ rights during the construction of this multistoried house and will draw up statements and requests to correct the situation.
