Activists lay flowers at the place of shooting execution of Vincent Hadleuski (photos)
The commemoration was attended by the activists of the Movement for Freedom (the MFF), the Right Alliance youth movement, the Belarusian Christian Democracy party, the Free Youth movement, and the Razam (“Together”) solidarity movement members.
The activists laid flowers, lighted candles, and raised the Belarusian national white-red-white flag in the place of the former Trastsianiets concentration camp near Minsk where 67 years ago the Nazi occupants executed by shooting Vintsent Hadleuski, the Catholic priest and the eminent person of the national democratic movement.
Speeches near the memorial cross were made by Yury Karetnikau, Viachaslau Siuchyk, Vital Rymasheuski, Ales Makayeu, and Mikita Krasnou.
“The figure of Hadleuski is unjustly undervalued by today’s Belarusians. In fact, he was an ideologist of a new wave of the national renaissance. Hadleuski was preparing the armed anti-fascist rebellion. This explains his rapid arrest and death sentence. Hadleuski’s biography should be researched by historians and should be studied in schools. Feature films should be made about him”, Karetnikau thinks.
Militia didn’t interfere in this commemorative event. However, the participants were filmed on video by five men in civil clothes (who surely were from militia or KGB).
