MFF activists clean up Jewish cemetery in Pastavy town (photos)
According to local residents, the authorities clean up the town’s central square excessively, but pay no attention to historical monuments at the adjacent streets.
The activists of the Movement for Freedom (the MFF) and of other civil organizations of Pastavy and Vitsiebsk arranged the removal of garbage and brushwood at the territory of the Jewish cemetery which they consider to be a historical monument which requires proper attention on the part of town utilities services.
At present, neither the District Executive Committee nor the utilities services take any care of the Jewish cemetery which is located in 300 metres from the town centre. According to the participants of the event, both the authorities and civil organizations still need to do great work on improvement of this cemetery, so that it would not be shameful to demonstrate it to tourists.
