Brest citizens whose house was to be demolished write an application to the prosecutor’s office
The residents of house No.26 at Pamiezhnikau street which is being put up to auction for demolition signed a collective appeal. The people are certain that their rights were rudely violated.
The Movement for Freedom (the MFF) Brest city activists informed the residents of house No.26 at Pamiezhnikau street of the city authorities’ intention to sell and demolish their homes. The people are indignant about the fact that their house which has long ago become a monument of architecture was put up to auction without their consent.
The collective complaint to the Brest Region Prosecutor was draw up with the help of the MFF activists Siarhiei Vakulienka and Dzianis Turcheniak. The house residents are sure the authorities violate Articles 44 (“The state guarantees the right to property to every citizen”), 48 (“No one’s house could be taken away randomly”), and 54 (“Everyone is obliged to take care of valuable historical and cultural items”) of the Constitution.
The MFF activist is certain that it was the timely intervention of the MFF activists, including the Monuments Protection Society leadership, which lead to the cancellation of the auction. According to the activist, however, the auction organizers intend to hold it in the late December or in the early January.
