EPP unanimously passes the resolution on Belarus

11/12/09

The European People’s Party resolution gives an assessment of today’s situation in Belarus, mentions the latest facts of pressure on the civil society, and includes the call on the authorities to respect the civil rights.

The decision was taken to discuss the Belarusian issue at the next European Parliament plenary session which will take place in a week in Strasbourg.

For reference – During his speech at the EPP congress on December 10, Aliaksandr Milinkievich expressed his concern with the fact that the European Parliament didn’t include the resolution on the situation in Belarus in its plenary session’s agenda. According to Milinkievich, the fate of democracy in Belarus depends on the coordinated activity of the Belarusian civil society and the united Europe. It’s very important that the EU continues to meticulously defend moral standards when implementing the policy of dialogue with our country.
