Masty District Executive Committee Refuses Hearings On Starch factory Construction
The officials refused to arrange public hearings on the issue of the environmental influence of the starch factory which is going to be built near Liada village.
Public hearings were proposed by Ales Zarembiuk, the Movement for Freedom (the MFF) Council member. According to him, a large potato processing factory could significantly worsen the environmental conditions in this area. Zarembiuk wants the authorities to provide the Masty district residents with all the information relating to the manufacturing of starch at this new enterprise prior to the beginning of construction, to consider all opinions of the interested persons, and to take a measured decision only after that.
However, according to the head of the District Executive Committee Mr. Shafarevich, Zara nad Niomanam newspaper manages to completely inform the population on the subject of construction of this large starch factory. Shafarevich’s answer seems to mean that no public hearings are needed. Mr. Snitko, deputy head of the District Executive Committee, in his turn adds that this factory would be built on the basis of the tender documentation of the Swedish company Larsson and that the manufacturing technology at this factory would comply with all relevant international standards.
Taking this into account, it’s all the more strange the authorities are afraid to hold hearings if they have several weighty arguments in favour of this project.
