Hlybokaye District activists publish new books

27/11/09

Sponsored by the Movement for Freedom (the MFF), the books on local history Valeryjanava Schools Of Luzhki Catholic Piarist Priests and Sharkoushchyna And Local Neighbourhood came out.

Hedeman Ott’s Valeryjanava Schools Of Luzhki Catholic Piarist Priests tells about the history of the Catholic Piarist Priests School in Luzhki which existed in the 18th – early 19th centuries, about tuition arrangement, and about the life in this school. The list of teachers and students is included. The author analyses the reasons behind its closure by the Russian authorities in 1832.

Sharkoushchyna And Local Neighbourhood includes interesting materials of the Polish authors relating to the history of Sharkoushchyna District and the neighbouring areas. Translations from Polish were made by Uladzislau Liaskouski, the scientist on the local history from Sharkoushchyna District who supports the MFF. This book also includes his materials on the history of the noble families.

“We already have a longstanding tradition of support of the gifted people of Hlybokaye District. The Sumezhzha (“Borderlands”) Civil Initiative publishes 3 to 4 books of the local authors annually. These are mostly poetry books, memoirs, and books on the local history”, the MFF activist Yury Kalbasich says.
