Wives of democratic activists interrogated by KGB

Wives of democratic activists, Alena Kavalenka, a teacher of chemistry, and Ina Bernikovich, a teacher of biology, have found themselves being closely watched by the KGB. KGB agents interrogated them about an explosion which occurred in Minsk on July 4.

“Not to let him out” is the order!

On July 25, Vital Karatysh, an activist of Movement For Freedom in Kazhan-Haradok (Brest region) was taken to serve in the missile brigade 465 which is situated in the Asipovichy district (Mahiliou region). Being called in the army right after his declaration to run elections the activist is not allowed to leave military unit to get registration for elections as one of candidates in the Luniniec district (Brest region).

Activists ask permission to collect signatures

Leanid Autukhou, an activist of the Movement For Freedom, had to send an application to the district executive committee asking permission to begin, on 1 August, his pre-electoral campaign in collecting signatures in Haradok (Viciebsk region). Although this kind of procedure is not required Leanid would like, nevertheless, to demonstrate to the authorities his openness preventing whatever provocations against his people and himself.

Activist called to military service in emergency

Vital Karatysh, activist of Movement For Freedom, living in Ka?an-Haradok (Luniniec district, Brest region) has been called to the district military registration and enlistment office just after his declaration to run parliamentary elections. Head of the district enlistment office himself lead the activist in clinic, room by room, to let Vital to get health examination, jumping the queue.

Mrs. Seviarynets not allowed to be candidate

District administration has been counteracting to activist of Movement For Freedom Tacciana Seviarynets, candidate for the Parliament in the Horki electoral district (Viciebsk region) #11, to get registration in order to begin electoral campaign. Having chosen its usual approach of pressure on pro-democratic candidates authorities have come to intimidating members of initiative group.

In the forthcoming month the leader of the Movement For Freedom is going to visit 35 towns to participate in pickets of signatures collection for parliamentary candidates. He will be having meetings in all the regions and most districts of the country.

Viktar Karneyenka: government failed another test of fair elections

Only 37 out of 110 candidates from the United democratic forces (UDF) list, prepared by Movement For Freedom, were included in district electoral commissions (DEC) for the general election in September. This accounts just more than 2% of all members of district commissions in the country.

On July 14 Ales Krauchenia, an activist of Movement For Freedom, had to abandon his study at the Baranavichy State University. A week ago this 4-year student was officially expulsed from the Engineering Department.
