Campaign News14:07, 05.04.2007 Aliaksandr Milinkevich claims TV life time to discuss Chernobyl problemsAliaksandr Milinkevich has asked the head of Belarus’ national TV and radio company, Aliaksandr Zimouski, to provide him TV life time in order to discuss the Belarusian government’s policy in minimizing the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster in Belarus. Today, the leader of Belarusian democratic forces has sent his official appeal claiming to provide him with an opportunity of TV life address to the Belarusian people. “On the occasion of Chernobyl disaster anniversary I ask to provide me, together with invited experts and "liquidators"* of the consequences of this disaster, with an possibility of life address on the national TV 1st channel on April 25, 2007 at 18.00”, put Mr Milinkevich in his letter. In his letter, Mr Milinkevich explains the necessity of life discussion on current problems in minimizing the Chernobyl consequences in Belarus because there are evident reasons to argue that: “The government is deliberately concealing the problems met by the "liquidators", by the people living in contaminated areas, by all the Belarusian citizens who, as a result of the government’s policy, have to consume alimentary products from contaminated areas; The country has been led to a social and economic deadlock caused by the government’s policies that do not allow to solve efficiently the existing problems as well as to receive substantial international help to minimize the Chernobyl disaster effects.” In accordance with the Article 10 of the Belarusian law ‘On Citizens’ Appeals’ the reply to Mr Milinkevich’s letter should be provided within the next 15 days since its matter does not require any additional investigation and inspection. * Liquidators is the name given in the former USSR for approximately 600,000 people who were in charge of the removal of the consequences of the April 26, 1986 Chernobyl disaster. |
